Two young children and a job that frequently takes him abroad means that moments with my husband tend to be stolen rather than frequent. There's currently little time for grand gestures or romantic dinners and the last time that we had a night away just the two of us was nearly five years ago. But, you know, I'm okay with that. Our time will come again and until then, we make the most of the small pockets of time that we do get.
We have our little rituals: on Friday evenings, we eat dinner together once the boys are tucked up in bed rather than earlier on with them, and Saturday is film night (although hijacked by X-Factor until Christmas, a programme that I love and he tolerates).
But my current favourite, is the few minutes that we get to spend together on a Friday afternoon putting the world to rights whilst sipping on sweet-smelling cups of coffee.
This moment is a new one for us. A little gift of time together since our eldest little dude started at pre-school earlier this month and luckily, the hours that he spends there coincide with the time that our youngest takes his afternoon nap.
From the buzz of the coffee machine to the tinkling of the spoon against the cup, from the very first sniff to the very first sip, it's time happily spent. An ordinary but lovely moment with my very best friend.
My husband and I met just over twenty years ago, not too long before the very first episode of Friends aired. We may have even tried to spot Monica's apartment while on holiday in New York a few years ago (we did and we did).
Now, CaféPod, as the official coffee partner of Friends and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show, are offering you the chance to to win a trip for two to New York. It'll just take you a minute to enter and no purchase is necessary. Simply pop over to the website and enter your details: www.cafepod.com/friends.
How nice would a springtime trip to the Big Apple be?
If you're a fan of Friends you can also follow all of the anniversary antics (and there are a lot) on twitter by searching #Friends20th.
