The Ordinary Lovely: Right as rain featuring Joules

As a family, we spend more time outdoors in autumn than any other season. A mild fifteen degrees with the sun shimmering in the sky is perfect for running, jumping and splashing about without getting too hot or too cold. The leaves have begun their descent from the trees but there's still so much green to be seen, and the forest floor is a veritable carpet of treasures when you're two and four years old ... leaves in an assortment of colours, pine cones, acorns, sticks and if you're very, very lucky, conkers. And yes, if you're two and four years old, you also attempt to smuggle all of those treasures in to your bed at night, too. Or is that just my two? Sleeping on pine cones? It wouldn't be for me but they give it their best shot not wanting to let their finds out of their sights. My funny, little boys.

To keep us cosy and dry on our adventures, I've been turning to Joules for many years now. Their clothes work for us. Classic, practical designs with a quirky twist that can withstand our outdoorsy lifestyle and not need replacing every year (apart from wellies for the boys ... how quickly do children's feet grow?!). I'd been wearing the Coast Womens Waterproof Hooded Jacket up until a couple of weeks ago when Joules asked if I'd like to select something new (and slightly less muddy) from their jackets and coats range. I wanted something longer and warmer to see me through until the winter months, so opted for the Raina Womens Waterproof Parka from the Right as Rain collection. It has taped seams and is half lined in fleece so is guaranteed to keep me dry and warm. Just as well, as the boys like to be out come rain or come shine (personally, I'd prefer more 'shine' but that would probably mean moving to another country and we've been there, done that, and happily come back home).

We're incredibly lucky to have so many stunning places close by to head out to on adventures, and in walking distance too. There's something about the Welsh countryside that absolutely touches my heart. There's an abundance of green that makes my soul feel at rest like nowhere else. I'm at home here, and we've nearly reached the point where both boys have lived just as long in Wales as they have in Switzerland, and so it feels like home for them too now (and my eldest no longer speaks English with a German accent but I do miss the staccato pronunciation a little, I'll be honest). We may not have the mountains that Switzerland proudly does (Snowdonia is pretty magical, though), but we have the green, green grass of home. And yes, Tom Jones and Joules too.

Here are a few of my favourite photographs from our weekend trip to the local woods. I think they're actually my favourite photographs, ever (Mary Poppins pose, aside).
