Getting away from it all

The Ordinary Lovely: Lighthouse Talacre

Whenever I dream of getting away from it all, it's always to the sea. It's the nothingness, the vast, open space, the weather. Lots of weather. And the stormier the better. Watching the waves crash on to the beach and then retreat backwards almost as if bowing their apologies to the sand for treating it so harshly.

I'd wear fisherman's jumpers, tie my hair back in messy ponytails and have a favourite armchair to sit in. Blanket on knee, legs curled beneath me, and hands warming around a hot cup of tea, I'd gaze beyond the lighthouse searching for fishing boats bobbing on the ocean, puppets to the push and pull of the sea.

Here, I'd find peace. Space and time to think. And sleep. Perhaps even a whole night's worth of sleep. Oh for a whole night's worth of sleep! I'd wake to witness the sun rise, the dawn of a new day, the sky tinged with pinks, oranges, blues and purples, and a world that has once again turned.
