I love candles. I love their warm glow and their gentle scent and how they make a room smell delicious. And yes, if they come in a beautiful box and a lovely glass jar, all the better. So it was with a squeal of joy on a dark and dismal January morning that I opened up big, brown box delivered by the postman to find a gorgeously wrapped candle and reed diffuser from Christy inside. A treat, indeed!
For the past couple of weeks, we've been enjoying the Christy candle and reed diffuser in fragrance #2. It's quite a masculine fragrance featuring oriental spices with cedar and jasmine, all resting on a base of amber. It's divine. It's rare for me to opt for a scent more exotic than vanilla but this, I like. It actually makes me think of my grandfather. He wore Calvin Klein's Obsession and it has a similar smell. It's a strong scent but also a very comforting one.
The candle is sitting happily on the sideboard in my living room. I love the metal lid with 'Christy' embossed upon it. It looks super nice. It burns really well, too (the candle, not the lid). None of the black smoke when you put it out (a pet hate of mine after seeing a yellow tinge appear on the ceiling of a previous home), thankfully.
The reed diffuser comes with eight black fibre reeds and has a slightly stronger scent than the candle. I initially found it a little too overpowering so reduced the number of reeds to three and now it's perfect. I think this is probably down to personal preference, and also the room that you place it in.
Both the candle and the reed diffuser sit at the higher end of the price range ... £40 for the candle and £29 for the diffuser (although both currently have 25 percent off). You really do get what you pay for though. You can definitely tell that Christy have used great quality ingredients and have really thought about the look of the products and how they will sit in your home. They're really, really nice.
If fragrance #2 doesn't sound like it's for you, there's also two others to choose from. Fragrance #1 is a blend of chamomile, lemon blossom and violet, all resting on a base of sweet musk, and fragrance #3 is a blend of rose pepper resting on a base of precious woods and vanilla.
I think I'm going to try fragrance #3 next. Which one do you like the sound of most?
Disclaimer: The candle and reed diffuser were much appreciated gifts from Christy but all opinions are honest.
