This has been the week when the sun finally decided to shine upon North Wales and more importantly, in to our living room. Its beams lighting up the floor in a criss-cross pattern. A pattern that has intrigued my littlest and prompted him to lie right next to it to use it as a road to run his cars up and down. Up and down. Up and down again. Slowly, steadily, enjoying the extra warmth on his legs and almost sending himself to sleep.
He's such a content little boy. Happy to play by himself, happy to play alongside others but happiest to lie in a dream-like state wheeling his cars backwards and forwards whilst practising new words that he's learnt that day. Repeating them, rolling his tongue around them, and repeating them just that little bit louder and with more confidence. He is, quite simply, an absolute delight (but with a feisty side).
And then there's my eldest. An energetic bundle of non-stop chatty fun and questions. Oh so many questions! He was beyond thrilled at the return of the Great British Bake Off last Wednesday. So much so, that we baked flapjacks together in its honour and then snuggled up to watch it on the sofa even though it was on way beyond his bedtime. You just can't keep a four year old from his heroine, Mary Berry! I adore his love for baking even though I suspect a huge part of his enjoyment is from sneaking tastes of the mixture when he thinks I'm not looking. It's red velvet cupcakes for tonight's episode!
