Easy to make: Get kettle on, love!

The Ordinary Lovely: DIY decorated tea towels

My two little dudes are quite close in age but at two and four, their capabilities are currently vastly different so it's not always easy to find crafts or activities that they can both do and enjoy. But, sound the klaxon, last week, I finally stumbled across one.

Decorating plain white tea towels with fabric paint!

In all honesty, it was something that I quite enjoyed doing too and now we have a lovely gift to give to my mother for Valentine's Day from the boys. I mean, what says love more than hand-painted tea towels?!

I emptied four different colours of fabric paint in to little pots, gave the boys a tea towel each (99 pence off eBay) and let them go crazy with the paintbrushes (and their hands). I then used the same colours and a rubber-topped pencil to create a waterfall-type pattern on a third tea towel.

All wrapped up with ribbon, they make a really nice set.

I'm not all that keen on displaying paintings around the house and, bad mother alert, I'm not a huge fan of cardboard creations cluttering up my kitchen, so these types of crafts, that the boys can get creative with but also culminate in something practical, is perfect for me. And yes, pretty perfect for grandparents too!
