When I gave up work after my littlest dude was born just over two years ago, it was quite an easy decision to make. I'd spent fifteen years working for the same company, albeit in several different roles and departments (and countries), but with a mere three months maternity leave on offer as per Swiss law and us planning to head back home to the UK, if felt like the right time to say my goodbyes. I rarely miss the work but I do miss the chit chat and the fun ... discussing plans for the weekend, what to wear to the next event, the merits of a new restaurant opening in the city, and which Essie nail polish works best with lime green Saltwater sandals (jury's still out on that one but I'm leaning towards Meet Me At Sunset). My boys are chatterboxes but they're not really interested in the pros and cons of skinny jeans versus flares and whether a Thai green curry wins out over a red.
Em from Life At The Little Wood (gorgeous lady and gorgeous blog if you haven't had the pleasure) writes a monthly feature called Things I'm Loving Lately in order to share all the little things that she's liked, loved or have made her happy during the month using the themes Beauty, Fashion, Home and Food. It's almost like a blogging version of office chit chat; sharing tips and learning a little bit more about your (virtual) colleagues. I'm going to try my very best to write something every month and I hope that you'll find it an interesting read too (and if you have a blog, I'm sure that Em would love for you to join in too).
I took a look at the Lily Lolo range upon Em's recommendation and have not been disappointed. The BB cream is a joy to use. It's really light but still makes my skin look that little bit healthier even after yet another night of disturbed sleep. It smells great too. I also invested in the mineral foundation and the mineral blush and LOVE them. The range is a lot cheaper than the brands that I was previously using (Clarins, Clinique and NARS) so, as you can imagine, I'm over the moon.
My biggest fashion news this month is that I've found a dress to wear for my brother's wedding in August. I though that I knew what I wanted but it turns out that I didn't. Thankfully, the lovely ladies at the Chester branch of Jigsaw were incredibly patient and incredibly helpful and pushed me to try on a dress that I thought was awful on the hanger but ended up being amazing on. And (I can hardly contain my joy at writing this), it's a size 8! I have never been a size 8! For that reason alone, I would have bought the dress. It's styled as a day dress on the website but because I'm a bit curvier than the model and am teaming it with heels and a hat, it works perfectly for a more formal occasion. I also picked up some new sunglasses from Zara. I'm not so sure that they really suit me but I couldn't resist. And we all need a fun purchase now and again, don't we?!
I'm not sure whether there's a particular age where you become interested in your garden but for me it was 38. A couple of months ago, we embarked on a bit of a makeover project with Homebase and this week, the first flowers started appearing. I'm probably a bit too excited about this and keep finding myself standing in the kitchen doorway admiring our handiwork. We still have a bit of work left to do to completely finish the garden but we're so proud of what we've done so far. I'm still in love with the colour of the fence. It's so much nicer than boring brown.
I've also treated myself to some flowers to brighten up my mantelpiece too. I love freesias. They make the living room smell lovely. At the weekend, we moved all of the boys' toys out of this room and in to their playroom upstairs (we have an extra room now as they've decided to share a bedroom) so now it's the perfect place to sit with a cup of tea surrounded by pretty things rather than cars, trains and top trumps cards.
Oh, and do you remember back in February when I mentioned that we were going to make over our littlest room? Well. Finally (finally!), it's finished. Here's a sneak peek and I'll do a full 'after' post next week. The Laura Ashley wallpaper is simply divine!
I. Cannot. Get. Enough. Of. Frozen. Yogurt.
Seriously, how good is that stuff? And because it's lower in fat than ice cream, you get to eat at least twice the amount. And ... my boys don't like it which means I can eat as much as I want in front of them and they don't ask to share. Awesome!
AND FINALLY ...
We went to buy this little guy a superhero costume but they didn't have one in his size. So ... he decided to fashion his own. Out of a swimming hat, sunglasses, a dressing gown tied round his neck, a Spiderman t-shirt, swimming shorts, socks and slippers. Have you ever seen a finer-looking superhero? I think not.
Chocolate brownies. Superhero fuel.
So those area some of the little things that I've been loving lately ... my favourites from the month. Eek! Actually, I do have one more thing to add. Last Friday, I found out that I'd made it to the finals of the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards. I'm really not quite sure how it happened. I was delighted enough to be shortlisted but to be in the final five seems like a dream. A really nice dream. Thank you so much if you took the time to vote. I'm absolutely over the moon.
