Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Letters (UH-MAZING!)

The Ordinary Lovely: Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Letters

Today, I've got such a treat for all you craft and interior lovers out there. I'm a very even-tempered person but when these Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Letters arrived at my door a couple of weeks ago, I actually clapped and squealed a little bit. They are uh-mazing! Parcelled up along with several sheets of colourful card and a few rolls of glittery and stripy washi tape, it was like Christmas come early, albeit in Kate Spade colours rather then the more traditional red, green and gold. The One Stop Craft Shop delivers better presents than Father Christmas!

Marquee lights have been a huge trend for a while now and their popularity shows no signs of waning. But imagine being able to buy them at a relatively inexpensive price and then decorate them to suit your own personal style or event? Now you can! Eeek! One Stop Craft Shop is one of the first suppliers in the UK to sell the Heidi Swapp Love Letters and I think they're going to fly off the shelves.

Let me give you a closer look.

Individual letter kits are currently for sale at £13.49 and as well as all of the letters of the alphabet, you can purchase a star, arrow and ampersand too ('Mr & Mrs' for anyone getting married?!).

Each kit contains the marquee letter (made out of really sturdy card and 8"/21cm in height), a template to trace around, a strand of battery-powered LED lights (2xAAA are needed, batteries are not included) and the outer casings (I'm not sure if this is the official term) for the lights.

Choosing what to spell out and how to decorate the letters was the hardest part of the whole process. I considered using our initials or the boys' full names but in the end decided to go for 'HOME' as that means something to all of us. With regards to the colour, I adore the Kate Spade branding with the black and white stripes and the vibrant pink. It's a happy contrast that makes me smile.

I started by decorating the outside of the letters using the specially-created 2" Heidi Swapp washi tape. It was relatively easy to do with a couple of tricky points to note:

1. It can be quite fiddly to get the tape around the letters that have smaller gaps. I couldn't do the the underside of the 'M' and the mid gaps of the 'H'. However, unless you look really closely, you don't realise that the tape doesn't go all the way around so it doesn't affect the design.

2. The glitter washi tape is a lot harder to work with as the texture is slightly different to standard washi tape. It doesn't peel off very well if you need to make any alterations and it also tears quite easily. It looks fantastic but I think I'd be tempted to use glitter paint on future letters.

Decorating the inside of the letters couldn't have been easier. You could use paint but I chose to use colourful card. I simply traced around the template provided and cut the shape out. To make the holes, I placed the cut-out letter on a piece of blue-tac and pushed a pen through. This made it easy to feed the LED light-string through and pop the outer casings on without having to try and cut perfect circles or buy a special singular hole punch.

And this is what they look like when they're fully decorated and switched on. I absolutely adore them!

What do you think? Aren't they super cool? I'm now running from room to room, compiling a list of ideas for other letters to decorate. I think they'd be perfect for weddings or as a party centrepiece. Thinking a bit too far ahead, how lovely would it be to have 'CHRISTMAS' on the mantelpiece in festive colours?! Or 'CHEERS' at a summer bbq? There's so many possibilities! If you'd like more inspiration, do have a look at Heidi Swapp's Marquee Love Pinterest board too.
