Breakfast in bed with HomeSense

The Ordinary Lovely: Breakfast in bed with HomeSense

While my terrible two might wake a touch (a couple of hours) earlier than I'd like, it's rare that we're up and out at a decent hour preferring cuddles, snuggles and occasionally, breakfast in bed instead. We might be awake but we're still engulfed by a hazy sleepiness that only dissipates when munching on butter-smoothered toast under a warm, cosy blanket and chatting about our plans for the day. More often than not they include popping to the supermarket, riding bikes and collecting sticks. So, all the important things in life. But never before tea and toast and rarely before getting jam-covered fingerprints on the latest favourite book. That's how our mornings have been for as long as I can remember. But. Once we bid adieu to the last bank holiday weekend of the year in a couple of weeks and whisper hello to September, the start of school is upon us and our lazy mornings will be a thing of the past.

So we have to make the most of the mornings we have left. And thanks to a trip to my local HomeSense store, we're going to be doing it in style. HomeSense, part of the TK Maxx family, didn't exist in the UK before we left to live in Switzerland but has become a favourite of mine since moving back at the beginning of 2014. I adore the eclectic range of products and how you never know what gem you're going to stumble across. I pop in every few weeks and there's always something new to discover. It's a veritable treasure trove. And if you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I recently found the stationery section It. Is. Amazing. Paper-lovers, get yourself there at once!

But back to my recent trip to the Chester store. Armed with my gift card, I had a vague idea that I wanted the odd item or two to add an extra touch of luxury to our mornings and I was excited to spend an hour (a child-free hour!) browsing the colourful aisles. However, I hadn't anticipated being stumped by the sheer amount of choice and how different it is to shop at leisure rather than making quick decisions because I have the boys with me and they're a bit bored. Even though it's not the biggest of the HomeSense stores, at one point, I was stood with so many cushions surrounding me, unsure of which to pick, that I could have piled them high and they would have touched the ceiling. Never send me on a trolley dash. I'm a dithering wreck when faced with so much choice!

After several laps of the store, my empty trolley slowing filling up until all I could squeeze in was a small bar of French soap, I made my final selection and headed home. A home that now has the best dressed bed and serves the prettiest breakfasts.

I know, I know, so many photos. But don't you just want to dive right under those covers, rest your head on the gorgeous cushions and put your hands round the sweetest cup of tea? I can't tell you how much more we all love our breakfasts in bed now, particularly my eldest little dude who thinks all meals should be served to him on a tray. I've set him up for a life of disappointment, haven't I?

My most favourite items include: DKNY duck egg bedspread, £49.99; Beth Jordan coral knitted square cushions, £19.99; striped lambswool blanket, £16.99; bamboo tray, £8.99.

Now my only worry is how I'm going to leave this heavenly bed to get to school on time. It's going to be tough. Really tough. I best make the most of the mornings we have left. So, if you want me, you know where to find me ... pyjama-clad and under that gorgeous bedspread!

HomeSense kindly sent me a voucher so I could pop along to the Chester store and discover something new. I did. And I will return.
