I have a thing for flowers. They brighten even the dreariest of surfaces and the most miserable of days. They add beautiful colour and a touch of luxury to every room. And snipping the stems, arranging them in a vase, and then standing back to admire them can often be the only calm minutes in my otherwise hectic day. It's a moment to take a deep breath, sigh and smile at the loveliness in front of me before I continue with playing with lego/chasing two boys who are refusing to get dressed/wiping crayon off the sofa. In a very boisterous, slightly dishevelled, male-dominated home, pretty flowers save my sanity somewhat. It's the simple things, right?
Artificial flowers have never really been on my radar. I'm aware that buying, arranging and then disposing of blooms can sometimes seem like a wasteful (and expensive) process but it's something that I enjoy. I really look forward to popping to the market to select a different bunch or two, each week. And, to be honest, fabric flowers? They just don't compare, do they? Well, that's what I though until these pretty, perfect peonies arrived at my door from luxury interiors specialist, Pavilion Broadway. They look good, don't they?
These gorgeous peonies (and vase) are from SIA Flowers, and are amongst the most detailed and beautiful of all entirely handmade faux flowers. Yes, you read that correctly, they are handmade. And hand dyed. Which probably explains why they are a million miles apart from the lacklustre attempts that I've seen in other shops. SIA use nature as their one and only inspiration, aiming to create flowers that look and feel as close to the natural world as possible. They really are convincing.
To replicate this simple and stunning arrangement is probably not as expensive as you might think either. The vase retails at £18.50 and the peonies at £8 per stem. I have five in my display bringing the total cost to £58.50. Maybe more expensive than your average bunch of fresh flowers but you'll be admiring these for many, many years as opposed to days.
And here they are in their new home in my kitchen/dining room. They fill the window space perfectly. I love their height and how vivid the colours are. I'm absolutely converted to artificial flowers now ... SIA artificial flowers, to be more precise. Do check them out. You can shop SIA Flowers online at Pavilion Broadway. I'm in love with their hydrangea selection and think they'd look wonderful in my living room next to the fire place. This could be the start of a whole new obsession!
I was sent this gorgeous display free of charge for the purpose of this post. All gushing is entirely honest, though. The peonies really are that pretty.
