It's no secret that I love beautiful things for the home. I just can't help myself. Some people are drawn to jewellery (I've been married for over ten years and am yet to choose an engagement ring), others swoon at fast cars (I worked in the automotive industry for fifteen years and mostly saw them as relatively uninteresting pieces of metal) but, for me? Show me gorgeous linen or cute stationery and I swoon. My husband's almost come to terms with my obsession. I think he figures better a vase, notepad or a kitchen towel now and again than a trip to Tiffany or a mid-life crisis sports car purchase.
To be fair, I don't actually buy a great many things. We've moved quite a lot over the years and once you've had to pack up a house, I think it puts you off amassing too many items in case you have to do it again in the future. However, when I came across Nancy Straughan and her stunning textile range, that philosophy went straight out of the window. I want everything!
Established in 2013, Nancy Straughan Printed Textiles produces the most beautiful homeware and accessories, all crafted from her very own stunning range of organic printed fabrics. Seriously, look at the photographs, they are divine. Inspired by Scandinavian and 1950s textiles, the products are simple but refreshingly contemporary. I adore them!
Nancy strives to be as transparent as possible with regards to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Each pattern is printed on to ethically sourced textiles and every single product is made in England. And rather than following trends, each print is designed to last for years. In a world of throw-away fashion, I love this concept. Nancy's designs are to be treasured rather than consumed and discarded.
Nancy's approach to design is really hands on too. In an age where almost everything is created on a computer, she prefers to sketch and jot ideas down (maybe in one of her gorgeous notepads). Her patterns contain a lot of texture and this is achieved by taking a huge amount of photos, scanning tree bark, stones and crystals and creating a lot of mess with ink. Doesn't it sound like fun?!
Nancy has kindly offered me one of her gorgeous kitchen towels and a notepad to giveaway to one lucky reader. All you have to do is follow the instructions in the rafflecopter widget below. There's one mandatory entry ... pop over to Nancy's website and leave me a comment letting me know which kitchen towel and which notepad you would choose should you be randomly selected as the lucky winner ... and one optional entry ... a simple tweet. The giveaway ends at 12am on September 27, 2015. The full terms and conditions can be found in the widget. Good luck!
