Unequivocally linked to my dislike of mess is my love of clever storage. I can't get enough of it. Others may coo over Louboutins and fluffy kittens, but me? Well, I'm happiest when I have a place for everything and everything in its place (it's a motto that also works well for weekends ... cosy beds for sleeping boys, cold glass of wine in mama's hand).
When I popped to the Great Little Trading Co. headquarters a few months ago, I was allowed a quick look at some of the soon-to-be-launched products, and the moment I spotted the three pieces making up the modular Rackham range, I was completely sold. Buy a single piece or buy all three (each one is £55), with a book shelf, a storage tray and a toy box, you can configure it in a handful of different ways and for multiple purposes.
As part of my role on the GLTC testing room, I'm currently putting the Rackham range through its paces in our very busy home ... a home with two little boys who are not the gentlest when it comes to ... well ... when it comes to anything, really. Ultimately, the three pieces are destined for my littlest's room where it will house his books, cars, trains and tracks. However, before I hand it over to him, I wanted to play around with it and see how it could be used in a more grown up space. So, here it is in the corner of our living room.
As you can see, even though the Rackham has been designed with children in mind, it works incredibly well in a modern living space. I placed two rope storage baskets in the book shelf compartment, used the toy box to hold books and photos and then popped magazines, remote controls and a small vase of flowers in the storage rack. Have a look at this short video ...
The storage tray will be perfect for my youngest's books, comics, and arts and craft supplies, but how nice does it look as a magazine rack and with a splash of colour from the flowers? And no more hunting down the remote controls!
For me, the hero piece is most definitely the Rackham book shelf. Remove the thought of it being a place to store books, though, and picture it as a coffee table or as a side table. It's simply perfect! Good looking, great for hiding away bits and pieces, and the perfect place to put your much-deserved cup of tea.
So, those are my first thoughts on the Rackham range. I'll write an update in a couple of months and share how my littlest has been using it and his thoughts on it. If you'd like to give it a whirl before then, there's currently 20 percent off with the code TREAT20 (ends midnight on October 31st). Happy shopping!
