'Tis November! The month of gunpowder treason and plot. I love Bonfire Night ... fireworks, sparklers, and eating hotdogs whilst surveying the embers. It's a tough night to be beat. To be fair, all of November is pretty lovely, isn't it? The weather is still mild, glittering frost in the mornings with the the sun breaking through the clouds post school run, the leaves are crisp and vibrant and not yet at the slippy, mushy stage, and we can almost hear the tinkle of jingle bells - I've done a little bit of thinking and planning but am waiting until mid-December before I really turn my attention to the festive season (although, you will see a couple of Christmassy posts from me over the next couple of weeks).
So, here are my November goals and plans ...
Later this month, I'm heading down to London to see the Great Little Trading Co. crew and can't wait to see how the showroom has been decorated for Christmas. I also have some increasingly festive posts planned for the Make a Happy Home blog featuring their lovely toys and decorations.
On my own blog, I'm putting together a post with Christy about making your home cosy in the colder months, and looking at gorgeous gift wrapping ideas with VQ, and I've scoured the recently launched Christmas range at Homebase for the most colourful, family-friendly decorations. Stay tuned!
I've had Katie's book, Hurrah for Gin, sitting on the kitchen table for a while now but I'm yet to pick it up and read it. I almost don't want to start it because I know it's going to be so funny I'll be sad when I finish it. I have a couple of train trips coming up, though, so I think it will be accompanying me on them. I'll be the crazy lady on the train crying with laughter.
This time of year always heralds the purchase of a new bobble hat for me. I just can't help myself. And I'm going to take every opportunity to wear this navy one from Joules, even if the weather doesn't require one (like in this post).
My brother took my husband on a tour of the Chase Distillery, last week, the lucky thing. However, he was thoughtful enough to bring home a bottle of Marmalade Vodka and a bottle of English Oak Smoked Vodka (which apparently tastes amazing with ginger ale). Roll on the weekend for our first sampling session!
We're having a girls' lunch planned at Australasia in a couple of weeks time. It's one of my favourite restaurants and I have to stop myself from ordering everything on the menu. Yes, I'm greedy. If you're ever in Manchester, I'd definitely recommend it.
It's going to be the battle of the furniture paints in my house over the next couple of months. However, having used both before, I know that they are equally as good in terms of ease of use, quality and finish. I'm working on a post for the Laura Ashley blog and am customising the cutest side table for them. And then, Annie Sloan were kind enough to send me some paint and wax to make over the rather boring chest of drawers in our bedroom. Both are going to look so nice and I'll share my progress over on InstaStories (my new favourite thing).
I'm off to London to learn all about Philips Hue lighting. We have a couple of Philips lights in our home and I'm really excited to try out their new wireless lighting. I believe there's going to be a very special guest, too. I'll let you know how I get on!
Towards the end of the month, I'm heading back to Manchester again, but this time, for the weekend. A mooch around the Christmas markets, dinner, drinks, gossiping, followed by a lie in and a spot of shopping. That's my kind of weekend!
Finally, just before we went trick or treating, I took the boys over to the woods in full costume to get some photos of them. They're a crazy pair. Aaawoooooo!!
Happy November! Fingers crossed it's a great month.
