Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at Erddig

The Ordinary Lovely: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at Erddig

On Saturday, we took the boys to Erddig to see Father Christmas. It's something that we've done every December for the past few years preferring a more traditional experience rather than somewhere full on festive - nothing wrong with department stores and city centres but my two are wild enough as it is, throw in loud music and animation and they verge on being uncontrollable.

At Erddig, the boys love having breakfast with Mother and Father Christmas accompanied by stories and songs and a small gift to open, and it's a huge treat to have the gardens to themselves for an hour or so before the doors officially open to the public. At £10.45 for children and £9.45 for adults, it's an incredibly reasonably priced affair, especially as it includes entrance to the property. It's booked up for this year but we definitely recommend it for 2017 if you live close by - or not close by, as it makes a brilliant day out anyway.

After meeting the man in red, and accompanied by the Mini Travellers family, we spent a couple of hours racing, quite literally, around the brand new Alice's Adventures in Wonderland garden trail. You can sense Alice's presence from the moment you enter the grounds and spot chainsaw artist Simon O'Rourke's amazing wood carvings. And if you follow the trail around the gardens you'll come across fancy dress opportunities, weird and wonderful mirrors, giant playing cards, a grinning Cheshire cat and the most amazing tea party. The whole setup is just brilliant and really, really fun for the children. We would have gone round a second time had my littlest been feeling better - we'll probably head back between Christmas and New Year instead as my mum would like to go, too.

I took a fair few photos, if you'd like to have a closer look. The trail will remain in place until the end of January so you've got plenty of time if you'd like to visit. It really is worth a day out.
