With my littlest's room revamp well under way (we're almost done except for bedding and toy storage which we just can't make a final decision on ... but as he doesn't seem to sleep in there very often it's hardly a pressing issue), I've started talking to my eldest dude about what he wants in his bedroom. After I declined to paint it black and explained that we probably couldn't make it in to a replica of the Death Star, we've agreed on making it a light, bright, Star Wars/superhero/space rocket room. Quite how I'm going to achieve all that, I'm not completely sure yet, but I'm going to start this weekend by filling in all the holes from the shelves and prints which were on the wall when it used to be our home office and giving the whole room a coat of pure brilliant white paint.
To be honest, I'm reluctant to make it too themed as I know how fickle five year olds are. Star Wars might be the topic of EVERY conversation right now but give it a few more months and his affections will surely have switched to something else (please, let them have switched to something else!). Ridding his room of the layers of black paint to make it Death Star-like would not be a task that I'd perform with glee (gritted teeth, yes ... glee, no). Even when it comes to accessories, I don't really want to commit to something very obviously Star Wars or superhero related. I want to give the room the essence of being themed but without going all out. Does that make sense? I hope it makes sense. All this talk of who the best baddy is, Kylo Ren or Darth Vader, has worn my braincells down, somewhat.
Getting the room off to a great start and meeting the light, bright, superhero and totally awesome criteria are these two cushions from contemporary and personalised gift specialists, Coconutgrass. It's a online shop full of quirky, cute products but the comic book cushions had me at KAPOW and BLAST! The colours are so vivid and the quality amazing.
