At the beginning of May, I still wasn't convinced that it would be wise to pack away my winter coat for the year, but here I am, typing this post sporting sandals, new freckles and an ever so slightly sunburnt nose. What an amazing difference a month makes. It really does feel like we're in the midst of a most glorious spring, and with days so sunny, we can forgive the odd rain shower or two, right? I think that June is going to be the month where my bones finally feel warm again, and I might even inflict my pale pins on the population of North Wales.
When it comes to a to-do list for June, it's going to be a very short but extremely sweet one because it's going to be a busy month. I've just looked back at May's list and didn't quite get all the way through it ... I didn't have time to make a start on the craft projects, and we didn't get to the beach for fish and chips, either. But that's okay. Even if I don't achieve everything I set out to do, I still love putting down my thoughts each month and sharing some of the fun things I'd like to achieve.
So, to June ...
- I have two trips to London planned, one to do with work and one for BritMumsLive (a blogging and social media conference), and then we're off to Italy for a week where I plan to eat pizza and ice cream for every meal. My aunt, who has lived there for as many years as I am old, will no doubt roll her eyes at me and tell me that there's more to Italian food than pizza, so I might humour her for one meal and switch to pasta, and then it will be straight back to pizza, I'm not going to lie.
- Paul turns 40 in June (he's a whole five weeks older than me) and we have a large bottle of Chase vodka sitting in the kitchen begging to be put to good use. He's having a BBQ to celebrate so I'm scouring the internet for ideas for a suitable signature cocktail for his party. I'm a huge fan of Moscow Mules but I'm not sure ginger beer is to everyone's taste. Maybe I could try a more summery concoction with raspberry. What do you think?
- And then on to strawberry picking. We went nearly every other day last June as it's one of the boys' favourite things to do. I love it, too, to be fair. There's nothing nicer than picking your own fruit and sitting in the long grass on a sunny day to eat it.
- Finally, we have a new firebowl, the Skagerak Ignis from Houseology, so I'm now obsessed with melted sweet treats. I'm determined to compile and share a top ten even if my hips won't particularly like it. The things I do for you guys!
Vodka cocktails and S'mores. Quite a pleasant to-do list, right? I think I'm going to really, really like June.
Last month, when I popped over to the woods to take some photos, I noticed how green everything looked. Bare trees had suddenly acquired a coat of leaves, and beautiful bluebells lined the paths. This month, I was completely overwhelmed by the changes. So much had grown that the paths had almost disappeared, and instead of the sun peaking through the clouds, we could just catch the tiniest glimpse of it through the billowing canopy of leaves.
Happy June! Fingers crossed it's a great month.
