Up until I received this gorgeous VQ Hepburn Mk II DAB radio, I think the main sound of this summer has been the pitter patter of raindrops against the window. I don't think I've ever known our raincoats to get such a good airing in August. Still, we've managed to get out and about even if we were the only ones silly enough to shiver on Llanfairfechan beach last week. My three year old asked, 'Why are we here?', and due to the onset of frostbite, my brain temporarily ceased functioning and try though I might, I actually had no response other than, 'Uh?'. A joyous parenting moment, I think we can all agree.
You may remember my delight when VQ asked me to style their Retro Mini encased in Emma Bridgewater's Marmalade print. That cute, practically edible, bundle of gorgeous sound still sits atop my bedside table and is used every day for me to work on my embarrassing 'mum moves'. Priced at £79.99, it's one of my most recommended buys for a great gift for family and friends (I gave one to each of my brothers for Christmas, in fact).
The VQ Hepburn Mk II, however, is a slightly more elegant affair. With its vintage looks and modern functionality, it's very sleek as opposed to fun-looking, particularly in the cream colour. I'm absolutely one for vibrant colours and prints but adore this more muted, sophisticated variation. At £129.99, it does cost more than the Retro Mini but it is so well designed and the sound quality is amazing, even in our countryside spot where reception can be a little on the temperamental side.
If, like us, you spend a lot of time outdoors, I'd definitely recommend popping one of the Hepburn Mk II-compatible large battery packs in to your virtual shopping basket. Yes, it's an additional £19.99 but the lithium-ion battery provides in the region of twenty-five hours of continuous playback, and recharges in just a few hours when connected to the mains. Cue lots of dancing in the garden (and scaring the neighbours) without worrying about where to plug the radio in. It's also great for outdoor parties as the bluetooth connectivity means you can switch from the radio to your personal playlists with a touch of a button. Genius, right?!
