Slow slow quick quick slow

The Ordinary Lovely: Packing a perfect picnic with Laura Ashley

I don't suppose the school summer holidays are often likened to a Foxtrot, but the 'slow slow quick quick slow' pace seems a rather fitting comparison. The first week was all about relaxing, taking things easy, encouraging the boys to indulge in a little more sleep. And then we went headfirst in to the uptempo phase with birthdays, birthday parties, appointments and adventures keeping us busy. Now, it's time to ease up on all of the activities and return to a calmer pace and slightly earlier bedtimes so that I'm not dropping both of them off at school wild and exhausted.

For the next few days, you'll find us doing a lot of this. Packing a basket with a few treats (and possibly raincoats ... this is the UK), and heading out for walks. Part of me wants to cram in as many things as possible before September but I know that that's not actually what the boys want or need right now. They're slower to wake in the mornings and happier being left to play in their pyjamas. And they're are not as quick to follow me round the house asking me what we're doing that day or declaring that they're 'soooooo bored' ... well, not all of the time, anyway.

In my eyes the best picnics features cheese and biscuits, tea and cake ... and the loveliest of blankets, the most beautiful of baskets, and the cutest of mugs and trays from the Laura Ashley Garden Birds range. Aren’t they lovely?
