I've shared the odd photo of our bedroom on here and on Instagram but mostly of the multiple blankets on my bed and rarely of the whole room. It's not because I have anything to hide. It's a nice enough space, particularly when the sun shines through the window in the middle of the afternoon and gives the room a lovely golden glow. It's merely because our bedroom is home to all the furniture that time forgot ... all the bits and pieces that Paul and I have picked up over the years and countries in which we've lived together. It's a room of mismatched chaos, of thrown together pieces, and of an abundance of clashing colours.
With nothing technically wrong with it, and because a bed's a bed and we're parents of two lively boys so are just happy to get a few hours sleep regardless of whether the surroundings are colour coordinated, it's not a room which I've been in a rush to tackle. Other projects have been more pressing, and on most occasions it makes sense to put your money towards the practical rather than the pretty, doesn't it?
However, over the Christmas holidays, spending more time at home, the magnolia walls had me wanting to banish yellow hues from the face of the earth. I'd had enough. Pure brilliant white was masking the magnolia before the sun had set on the second week of January, and already it has made such a difference.
But what about the fun part? The furniture and the accessories? Well, some will stay, some will be repurposed, a few bits and pieces have found their way to my brother's new house, and the odd item or two (or three or four) has been or will be purchased. And the colours I'm opting for? Well, after much pinning and mind-changing and pouring over interiors magazines, I kept coming back to blues, navy and mint in particular. Put the two together and you've got warm and cosy, light and bright. They're a brilliant combination.
Here are a couple of 'before' pictures so you can see what we're dealing with. It's not bad but it's not good, either. See what I mean about the sun pouring in, though.
And here's what I've got my eye on to complete the transformation - some of these things I've had for ages, others I've bought quite recently and the rest are sitting in my virtual shopping basket.
What do you think? I promise I'll share an update in a few weeks when it's all finished.
