I know that we're in the dismal depths of winter but let's have a little chat about the new Spring Summer 17 homeware range from Matalan. It has just hit the shops and it's a little bit special. Gorgeous greens, zesty yellows, and a touch of tribal influence for those of you who like your interior decor with an exotic flavour. These are pieces that are going to add a much needed touch of colour and comfort to your home while the days are still so short and dark. Don't get me wrong, I like the cosiness of winter, layering blankets over beds and sofas, and warming my hands on hot cups of tea, but I also like to introduce lighter, brighter products and fabrics in to my home at this time of year to combat the post-Christmas comedown. It stops me from missing the glitz and sparkle of December quite so much.
Picking out a few chosen products, I decided to see how they would look in my two favourite places to lounge ... the armchair in the living room and our super comfortable, super king size bed. Both are situated alongside the windows at the front of our home and the sun travels across them throughout the day casting the loveliest golden glow. They really are the nicest spots in the whole of our house.
Both looks centre around probably the softest throw I've ever owned. It's ultra luxurious, the loveliest duck egg colour, and completely affordable at £20 - it comes in a beautiful blush pink too, if you're still lusting over last year's Pantone Colour of the Year. I always think that texture and pattern really bring a room to life, and with its tactility and discrete duck egg and pale grey stripes, this throw is such a find.
The living room
In the living room, I draped the throw over the grey armchair and teamed it with a soft grey, rectangle cushion - look at the gorgeous stitching on it; the detail is stunning! We're a house of cold feet so I popped a large faux Mongolian fur cushion on the floor next to the chair to put my feet on. It's also perfect for the boys to lie on when they're reading or watching TV - at 58 x 58 cm, it's a really versatile size. The giraffe and ceramic candle add interest and a pop of colour to my cosy corner without being overpowering ... they hint at the tribal theme without being too full on. What do you think?
In the bedroom, I teamed the throw with a bolder print, choosing a tribal triangle print cushion in yellow, grey and cream. The yellow piping is a fantastic touch making the cushion look considerably more expensive than its £6 price tag. I've picked up cushion covers (minus the insert) for a similar price in a couple of competitively priced high street retailers and Matalan's stand head and shoulders above them in terms of quality and detail.
And it's a similar story with the bedding set ... the stitching, the piping, the attention to detail, and the fact that it looks fantastic ... they all combine to make it a truly brilliant buy. If, like me, you prefer your bedding to be 100 percent cotton rather than a blend, this geometric fan print one is an excellent alternative - the mustard oxford edge trim is totally swoon worthy.
Living room, bedroom, any room, Matalan's new range is luxurious, colourful, and affordable - perfect for those of you who want to bypass winter and sprinkle some spring-like warmth over your home without breaking the bank. Go check it out!
This post was written in collaboration with Matalan who provided me with some of the products used in these photos (not all ... I spotted the tribal cushion, giraffe and ceramic candle when I was looking at the new range online and popped to the Chester branch to buy them so I could share them with you).
