Come the beginning of September, I can normally be found studying the trees and local woodland for a golden glimmer, a falling leaf or two and a nod that autumn will soon be on its way. But I've not felt inclined to do so this year. I miss the sun. The warmth. The lazy days in the garden. The smell of BBQs. And ambling around barefoot or in sandals. Autumn's well and truly here but for the first time ever, I don't feel ready to race through leaves and embrace scarf and gloves weather. I'm not tempted by hot chocolate and I'm quite happy for Christmas to remain months away and undiscussed. I don't know myself any more!
I don't normally turn to shopping to cheer myself up but I have made two purchases recently that have brought a smile to my face and persuaded me that this time of year might not be all that miserable after all ... a gorgeous plum peplum top and tan leather saddle bag, both from Joules. I love, love, love this top and the frilled hem makes me want to twirl. The plum colour's so nice. All in all, it's a wonderful autumnal take on the mums' favourite Breton top. It comes in navy, too. Tempted? I am!
And after nearly seven years of being accompanied by at least one of my boys on every outing and having to carry the biggest bag full of EVERYTHING, I've invested in the cutest little saddle bag now that my youngest has started school and I get to leave the house with just my purse, keys, sunglasses and phone. It's my very own 'back to school' bag and I love it. There's no room for colouring books, snacks, random toys, or semi-leaking sippy cups. Look!
I can't find it on the Joules website any more but this leather shoulder bag comes a close second or for a budget buy, try this tan PU saddle bag. Actually, while I normally 99 percent of the time opt for leather, with the current climate, polyurethane might be a better choice. See the dimples on the flap? Caused by an unexpected shower. On the very first day I used it. Yep, I cursed autumn even more on that day.
But I still love it, though. A little wear and tear adds to the character, don't you think?
How are you feeling about autumn? Are you ready for it? Still wearing flip flops? Thinking about starting your Christmas shopping? Or are you tempted to hibernate until spring? Go on, cheer me up and tell me wonderful things (and weather) are on the horizon.
