Sometimes the sweetest and simplest of ideas are born out of completely coincidental circumstances. A couple of weeks ago, when playing with air drying clay with the boys in preparation for a Christmas craft evening at mine, we mixed black and white clay together (an idea stolen from the wonderful world of Anna and Clara at Søstrene Grene) to make marble-effect decorations, and popped them on a piece of newspaper to dry.

The marble swirls of the decorations against the black and white print of the newspaper looked so nice. So chic. And then I accidentally dropped a length of black ribbon on them whilst I was unwrapping a parcel and it seemed to be the most perfect combination.
