A snack for Santa ... salted caramel fudge and peanut bites

A snack for Santa ... salted caramel fudge and peanut bites

I hate to be the one to break the news to you but the mince pies ... the ones you leave lovingly alongside a carrot for Rudolf and maybe a glass of milk and something a little stronger ... well, Father Christmas? He's not all that fussed about them anymore.

Seriously. I kid you not.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he's a bit sick of them.

I, Rachel, solemnly believe that a pudding is not a pudding unless it's a chocolate pudding. As far as mottos go, I'm pretty sure that that's one of the best to live by. It's stood me in good stead for thirty nine years and no lemon posset or rhubarb crumble is going to convince me otherwise. Fruit is fruit. It is not a pudding. Pudding is chocolate. And cream. And sometimes, vanilla. And the addition of a biscuit base is always a winner. However, in the spirit of the festive season, I'm going to make one exception. And that is for orange. More specifically, chocolate orange. A firm favourite of mine. So in December, all bets are off, and I'm going to embrace a 'fruit' pudding ... in the form of melt in your mouth chocolate orange mini pots. Perfectly healthy as they contain fruit. That's right, right?

The way to my heart

The way to my heart

I'm not a complicated person. My likes are quite simple. Yes, they can sometimes tend towards the expensive side but on the whole, my smiles are more frequently bestowed upon the simpler things in life as opposed to the grand. So when it comes to Mother's Day presents, my request for next Sunday is for nothing more than a quiet (in the sense of no fancy plans rather than noise levels) day with the boys, baking, walking in the park and then home for coffee and chocolate. Simple, rather ordinary but the kind of day that leaves you smiling long after the clock ticks midnight and a new one begins.
