Since little Lyra, our beagle pup, joined our family back in August, the amount of time I spend in the garden has increased exponentially. Rain, shine, early morning, middle of the night, every couple of hours to be honest, you can pretty much find me sleepy-eyed and welly-clad exploring corners of our garden and neighbouring field that I’d barely glimpsed at before.
When it comes to garden plans, I’m beginning to realise that they need the same level of commitment in terms of time, planning and money as the inside of our home. Of course, much like you can buy a couple of cushions to spruce up an old sofa, you can simply purchase a new pot or two to make a patio look prettier.
I’ve been wanting to go to the Chelsea Flower Show for as long as I can remember but have never managed to fit in a visit - work, kids, being in a different country, forgetting it was on until seeing Monty’s smiling face peering out from one of the gardens on the BBC highlights, you know how it goes.
