I tried to resist. I really, really did. I tried so hard. At first, I managed to avoid the festive chocolate aisle in the local supermarket. Something so bloody difficult when it’s your favourite food group. Then I managed to suppress an excited tingle at the appearance of the first jolly adverts on the TV. I even turned down an invitation to a private Christmas shopping event at one of my favourite shops. Self control or what?!
I’ve featured more books on here over the last few weeks than I have in the past four years since starting The Ordinary Lovely. Some of it is probably due to the nights drawing in and spending more time indoors rather than in the garden but a lot of it has to do with the boys spending weekends playing nicely together and not yelling for me to ‘tell him to stop’ every five minutes. It’s been a revelation. Long may this sibling harmony continue. It’s an unusual situation in this house and I’m loving it. So, here are some of my favourite recent reads, all to do with joy and happiness. Two things, along with children who get along, that we could all do with a bit more of in our lives, right?
In just over a week, I will have been writing this blog for four years. Four whole years of putting fingers to keyboard and sharing stories, situations, interests and interiors. Go back further than that and I used to write the occasional post on another blog about the highs and lows of living abroad - it doesn't exist any more so I can't point you in its direction, sorry.
And way before that, in my pre-baby days, I worked on setting up blogs and writing posts for one of the biggest companies in the world (my speciality was penning encouraging words of wisdom on behalf of male Vice Presidents, mostly German but sometimes American, and often in their mid 50s ... niche, right?).
